Artist’s Statement
In my artwork I mainly focus on my characters’ inner guiding force and monologues. Apart from very rare exceptions, I do not usually work with life models. For me art is a personal need to transform my own visions, images and the situations that surround me. As a result, throughout the years I have created a series of fictional characters, both, men and women, who reflect on their human condition. They are the result of experimenting with different materials, taking a stain as the starting point and gradually letting it evolve. There is no strict order from the beginning to the end: sometimes the first strokes are lost underneath many other layers of a painting, other times they stay where they are and gain more force in the composition. I choose my work material quite impulsively, according to my necessity at the time and the circumstances.
Although the technique itself is important to me, my main interest lays in the expressiveness, as my focal theme–human beings or my image of the individuals that I have met- are the ones to tell the story through their expression. As a young artist, I felt identified with expressionism; since then, consciously and subconsciously, I have been guided by this artistic style to convey what I am looking for. Saying that, I always seek for a constant change and reinventing me is my permanent goal so that I do not become an artisan in my work.
